Last year I became aware of how vibrant and active the South African Blogosphere is.
South African usage of the Internet is changing. People still read the big news sites, but in addition many are now reading and participating in blogs written by interesting individuals. These bloggers are also sometimes known as citizen journalists and many are commentators on current events.
Many South African blogs enjoy regular readers and receive a healthy amount of Internet traffic. Taken together, the blogging community and their readership represents a significant portion of South African Internet traffic.
South African Internet usage last year surged and grew from 4.8 million to 7.8 million, a 162% increase.
So what this means is that the Internet is becoming an ever more attractive medium to advertise in.
I became very involved and active in the South African Blogosphere last year and I made many friends and established many useful contacts with other bloggers, journalists and other media personalities.
I saw the potential to establish a new online advertising service which serves advertising onto popular South African blogs and web sites. So, with the help of others, I have established a growing publisher network of active blogs on which to deploy banner advertising.
We are using OpenX ad serving software which allows advertisers to monitor their online advertising campaigns in real time. Advertisers can see where their adverts are deployed, how many times they are being displayed (the number of impressions) and how many people are clicking on them and on which sites. In addition, advertisers are able to switch their advertising around so that they are shown where they are most effective.
We are now open to accept advertising from South African businesses who wish to get their message in front of a South African audience.
Application to join our publisher network may be made by anyone with an active South African blog or South African web site.
